Where burial is the habit, as in France with only about 44.91%[1] of people cremated, burying a pet reptile can feel natural too. Think about who uses the garden. A grave near a play area, a pond or a vegetable plot is a poor fit for an animal that may carry Salmonella, and cremation removes that concern entirely.

- Pack a familiar hide or towel in the carrier. In cold weather, keep it warm on the journey with a wrapped heat pack.

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Montpellier?

Can I take my reptile's ashes with me to another country?

Can I keep my tortoise's shell instead of cremating it?
Yes, but only if you decide before cremation. A shell can be cremated along with the body, or cleaned and preserved by a specialist and kept whole. Tell the provider in writing which you want. If your tortoise is a protected species, check the rules before ever selling or giving the shell away.
Should I get a necropsy before cremating my reptile?
It's worth considering if the death was sudden or you keep other reptiles, because some infections spread between enclosures and a post-mortem can only happen once. Keep the body refrigerated, not frozen, and ask an exotics vet near Montpellier about cost and timing. Cremation can still follow afterwards.
