Cocoa Beach, Florida
What arranging reptile cremation in Cocoa Beach is like
Cocoa Beach is a surf town on Brevard County's barrier island, roughly 49 miles east of Orlando, with Port Canaveral and Cape Canaveral just to the north. Hotels and condominium towers line A1A along the ocean, while older ranch houses and canal homes fill the blocks toward the Banana River. Cruise days, holiday weekends and launches can jam traffic on the island, so settle on a pickup time with some margin.
A large share of Cocoa Beach homes are condominiums or small lots on low sand close to the river canals, which rules out a backyard grave for many people. Cremation is the practical path here. A modest urn on a bookshelf, or on a balcony table where a cat liked to follow the surfers each morning, keeps your companion part of the household.
If you keep reptiles near Cocoa Beach under a wildlife or exotic animal permit, check whether your permit asks you to record a death or show how the body was dealt with. Requirements vary by place and species, so we don't list them here. A written cremation certificate from the provider is easy to ask for and covers most record-keeping needs.
Cocoa Beach's population is around 11,314, the 154th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Orlando, roughly 49 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Cocoa Beach run from there.
Our pages for Merritt Island (3 miles, a larger centre), Cape Canaveral (5 miles) and Rockledge (7 miles, a larger centre) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Cocoa Beach as well.
72.5%[1]
The NFDA projected Florida's cremation rate at 72.5% for 2024.
6 million[2]
About 6 million US households keep reptiles.
700,000[3]
There are about 700,000 pet tortoises and turtles in the UK (1.6% of households).
3-5% of body weight[4]
Embrace notes cremated remains typically weigh about 3-5% of the pet's original body weight.
The published sources behind those figures are American Pet Products Association (APPA) 2025 National Pet Owners Survey release and UK Pet Food (formerly PFMA) Pet Population 2026.

Cremation customs in Florida, applied to reptiles
Around 72.5%[1] of people in Florida are cremated, one of the higher shares you'll find anywhere. Where cremation is this ordinary, keepers tend to think of it first, and home burial of a reptile is more a question of garden space than of tradition. For apartment keepers and renters, cremation is usually the practical answer anyway.

Cocoa Beach weather and your reptile
In Cocoa Beach's July heat, a small body changes within hours, and an outdoor turtle or tortoise that has slipped out of its pen can be hard to find. Search shaded corners, drains and under decking early in the day, wearing gloves, and keep a lidded box ready so you can bring the body inside straight away.
Many keepers in Cocoa Beach rely on air conditioning to keep a reptile room safe through May, June, July, August and September. If you come home to a silent unit and a motionless lizard, cool the room gradually rather than dunking the animal in cold water, which can shock a live reptile. It goes into a sealed tub and the fridge only after a vet confirms death.

Reptile cremation prices in Cocoa Beach
In a US survey, 61% of owners said the cost of aftercare worried them[5]. For reptiles the numbers are usually modest, because most sit in the lowest band shown below. The simplest way to keep a Cocoa Beach quote honest is to give the species, the weight and, for snakes, the length, then ask for one written total.

Before you bury or scatter in Florida
Some places license venomous snakes, large constrictors or crocodilians separately from ordinary pets. If yours was covered in Florida, the permit office may want to hear that it has died, and any crematory will want the species named before it arrives. A dated cremation certificate satisfies most requests of this kind.

Home burial and scattering are governed at the Florida level first; our Florida rules summary has the detail. Then check whether Cocoa Beach or your HOA adds anything.
What to do when your reptile dies in Cocoa Beach
- Ask how long the clinic can hold your reptile and whether it stays chilled. Most can keep a small body for several days.
- Say whether you want a post-mortem before anything is arranged, because freezing and cremation both rule it out later.
- Find out which crematory the clinic uses and ask if reptiles there are cremated alone or together with other animals.
- Take your reptile home instead if you prefer a garden burial or a different provider. Ask for it in a sealed, labelled container.
- Check the release paperwork: the name, the species and the service you picked ought to appear on the form.
- Ask for a call when the ashes reach the clinic, and find out if a quieter time can be arranged for collecting them.
Remembering your reptile in Cocoa Beach
July in Cocoa Beach tops out near 91F and winter lows sit around 51F, which means cooling falls to you. Condo units with west-facing glass can heat up quickly. Carry your pet to the room where the thermostat reads lowest, rest them on a thick beach towel, and wedge cloth-wrapped cold packs along their side. Ahead of a hurricane the State Road 520 causeway fills early, so do not wait to phone.

Questions people ask
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Cocoa Beach?
There is no frozen-ground season here; average lows stay above freezing all year. The other pressure point is July, when highs around 91°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 49 miles from Cocoa Beach) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Cocoa Beach?
Usually yes. Merritt Island is about 3 miles away, Cape Canaveral is about 5 miles away and Rockledge is about 7 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Why does the Cocoa Beach page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 72.5%[1] of Florida residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
Can I have my reptile freeze-dried instead of cremated in Cocoa Beach?
Yes, a few studios take reptiles, and some keepers like how well scales and markings survive. One Ohio studio lists a bearded dragon at about $850[7], and freeze-drying typically takes 6 to 12 months[8]. By our estimate it costs about six times an average cremation[9]. Keep the body frozen, not refrigerated, if you're considering it, and call the studio before anything else is arranged.
What happens if my reptile dies while I'm on vacation?
Your sitter should put on gloves, wrap the body in a sealed bag, put that in a lidded container in the fridge and take photos of the enclosure and thermostat. Then phone your vet, who may agree to hold the body until you're back. You don't need to rush home: a sealed, chilled body keeps for days. Check your other animals as soon as you return, especially if heating was involved.
