Emirates Hills, Dubai
How snake, lizard and tortoise cremation works in Emirates Hills
From June to September, Dubai afternoons sit in the 40s°C with sticky Gulf humidity, and heat stroke can take a pet quickly even after a short time outside. When a pet dies at home in those months, move the body into the coldest air-conditioned room in the villa, lay wrapped ice packs alongside and aim for collection within hours. From December to February the weather is mild and the pressure eases.
Garden burial is not simply a personal choice here: community rules and municipal regulations both apply, and villa gardens are usually irrigated landscaping looked after by contractors. Most Emirates Hills households choose cremation, which also suits families who expect to relocate. Your vet can explain what is permitted and help arrange aftercare for cats, birds, rabbits, tortoises, reptiles and other companion animals.
Around Emirates Hills, the local practice may be a mixed or farm vet more used to cattle than chameleons. That's still a good first call. Farm vets confirm deaths every week and know every aftercare route in the district, including which crematory takes small companion animals. Tell them early that you want your reptile cremated individually.
About 5,000 people live in Emirates Hills, which makes it the 2nd-largest of the 2 Dubai communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Emirates Hills are based about 12 miles away in Dubai, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
If you want to compare providers, look at Dubai (13 miles, a larger centre), Sharjah (26 miles, a larger centre) and Abu Dhabi (65 miles, a larger centre). Distance matters because pickup fees and the time until the ashes come back both grow with the drive.

Burial or cremation? The view from United Arab Emirates
We don't have a reliable local cremation rate for Emirates Hills, but pet cremation is available in most places and growing. For a reptile, experience matters more than local custom. Ask how the provider handles very small bodies and whether a tortoise shell is cremated or returned, and get both answers in writing.
Seasonal risks for reptiles in Emirates Hills
Whatever the season in Emirates Hills, a small reptile's body keeps best in an ordinary household fridge, not on a windowsill or in an outdoor bin. If the fridge feels wrong to you, a cool box with frozen water bottles works for a day. Either way, label the container clearly so nobody opens it by mistake.

Paying for a reptile's cremation in Emirates Hills
For comparison, US crematories price pets up to 30 lb at $45 to $75 communal and $100 to $175 private[4], and nearly every reptile falls into that band. Prices in Emirates Hills will follow local costs, but the structure is similar: a minimum fee, plus collection and a container. Ask what's included before you agree.

What Dubai allows for burial and ashes
Before a home burial anywhere in Dubai, look past the regional rules to the ones closer to home. Leases, homeowners' associations and some city ordinances forbid burying animals on the property, even a small lizard. Cremation needs no such permission, and the ashes can go with you wherever you settle next.
In the UAE, pet burial isn't generally permitted, so cremation is the usual route for reptiles too. The UAE also restricts keeping dangerous and some wild animals, so if your reptile needed a permit, keep the paperwork with its records. Shared cremation for a pet under 5 kg costs about AED 700 to 900[6]; ask for a written price and how ashes are returned.
Who to call and what to do, in order
- Ask how long the clinic can hold your reptile and confirm it will be kept cold. A small body can usually stay there for a few days.
- Say whether you want a post-mortem before anything is arranged, because freezing and cremation both rule it out later.
- Find out which crematory the clinic uses and whether its reptile cremations are individual or shared with other animals.
- Take your reptile home instead if you prefer to bury it in the garden or use another provider, and request a sealed container with a label.
- Check the release paperwork: your reptile's name, species and the service you chose should all be written on it.
- Ask for a call when the ashes reach the clinic, and whether you can collect them outside the busiest hours.
Remembering your reptile in Emirates Hills
Emirates Hills is a gated villa community in new Dubai, laid out around a golf course and a string of lakes, a short drive from Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Homes are large, with gardens, pools and often household staff, and every visitor passes a security gate. When you ask about collection, give the villa number and let security know someone is coming, so nobody is held up at the entrance.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Emirates Hills?
Usually yes. Dubai is about 13 miles away, Sharjah is about 26 miles away and Abu Dhabi is about 65 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Where are the providers that serve Emirates Hills actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Dubai, about 12 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Emirates Hills and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
What if there's no reptile vet near Emirates Hills?
Call your local vet anyway. Any vet can confirm death and store your reptile safely, and most can arrange cremation with the crematory they use for cats and dogs. If your reptile is still alive but unwell, ask them to consult an exotics vet by phone, or plan a drive to a larger centre such as Dubai.
Should I get a necropsy before cremating my reptile?
It's worth considering if the death was sudden or you keep other reptiles, because some infections spread between enclosures and a post-mortem can only happen once. Keep the body refrigerated, not frozen, and ask an exotics vet near Emirates Hills about cost and timing. Cremation can still follow afterwards.
Is it safe to handle my reptile's body?
Yes, with basic hygiene. Reptiles often carry Salmonella, so wear disposable gloves, double-bag the body, keep it away from food and wash your hands for at least 20 seconds afterwards. Keep young children and anyone with a weakened immune system away. For venomous species, use tongs near the head, because a bite reflex can remain.
How much does it cost to cremate a snake or lizard in Emirates Hills?
Published prices for small pets outside the US give a good guide. In the UK, individual cremation of a cat-sized pet is roughly £160 to £190; in Australia the median for pets under 5 kg is about AUD 412; in Ireland individual cremation starts from €150 for pets under 2 kg. Communal is much cheaper. Ask an Emirates Hills provider for its small-pet rate and what's included.
