Getting reptile aftercare sorted in Sharjah
Sharjah is the most traditional of the emirates, and burying a pet in a residential compound, a park or on public land is generally not an option. Cremation arranged through a vet is the usual route for families who want to keep something of their pet. Ask whether the cremation is individual, how long the ashes will take to come back, and whether you will receive paperwork for them, which is useful if you later relocate.
Sharjah's summers are fierce, with long spells above 40°C and sticky humidity near the coast. A car parked outside becomes dangerously hot within minutes, so do not leave a pet's body in a vehicle while you make calls. Keep them inside with the air conditioning turned up, lay them on a towel over frozen packs, and phone your vet early in the day. Clinics are often the ones who arrange cremation in the northern emirates.
A metro like Sharjah usually hosts reptile expos or breeder meetups, and the breeder who sold you your animal may be a local phone call away. Breeders see losses in their own collections and often have firm views on post-mortems and aftercare. If your reptile died young, they'll usually want to know, and some will ask to see the findings.

Burial or cremation? The view from United Arab Emirates
Attitudes to cremation vary from place to place, but for reptiles the practical questions are the same everywhere: is the death confirmed, is the provider experienced with your species, is it private, and what comes back? In Sharjah, those four questions will sort a good arrangement from a disappointing one faster than any price list.

Rules reptile keepers should know in United Arab Emirates
Before a home burial anywhere in United Arab Emirates, look past the regional rules to the ones closer to home. Leases, homeowners' associations and some city ordinances forbid burying animals on the property, even a small lizard. Cremation needs no such permission, and the ashes can go with you wherever you settle next.
In the UAE, pet burial isn't generally permitted, so cremation is the usual route for reptiles too. The UAE also restricts keeping dangerous and some wild animals, so if your reptile needed a permit, keep the paperwork with its records. Shared cremation for a pet under 5 kg costs about AED 700 to 900[5]; ask for a written price and how ashes are returned.
A plan for the next few days
- Tell your child simply and honestly that the gecko or turtle has died. Saying it has "gone to sleep" can leave a small child afraid of going to bed.
- Let an adult do all the handling, gloves on. The CDC says children younger than five should be kept away from reptiles and the places they live, because of Salmonella.
- Offer a way to say goodbye without touching: a drawing for the box, a short note or a favorite photo.
- Let them help choose between bringing ashes home and a garden burial. Being asked matters more than the answer.
- Save something they can hold, such as a framed shed skin or a scute in a small locket.
- Wash hands together afterwards, then disinfect everything the reptile came into contact with before the tank gets a new occupant.
Keeping your reptile close
Sharjah is home to many families who work in Dubai, and most live in apartment towers around Al Nahda, Al Majaz and Al Khan or in villa areas further inland. The roads between the two emirates are some of the busiest in the country at rush hour, which matters because a number of the UAE's pet aftercare services operate from Dubai. When you ask your vet or a provider for options, say which area you are in and when a collection could realistically reach you.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Sharjah?
Usually yes. Dubai is about 13 miles away, Emirates Hills is about 26 miles away and Abu Dhabi is about 89 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can I freeze my reptile before cremation?
Yes, once death is definitely confirmed. Double-bag the body, place it in a labelled, lidded tub and keep it away from food. Freeze only if the wait will be more than a couple of days and you don't want a post-mortem, because freezing damages tissue. For shorter waits, the fridge is enough.
Do crematories near Sharjah take venomous snakes?
Many will, but you must tell them the species in advance. Handle the head only with tongs, place the body in a rigid, sealed container and label it clearly. Venom remains dangerous after death, and a bite reflex can persist for a while. Some providers ask for extra handling time, which may affect the price.
How do I get a large snake or tortoise out of a Sharjah apartment?
Use a strong, lidded tub rather than a bag, and ask a second person to help if it's heavy. Take the service lift if your building has one and tell the front desk a collection is coming. Many providers will collect from inside your home if you give them the weight, the floor and any stairs.
How much ash will I get back from my reptile?
Cremated remains weigh roughly 3-5% of body weight[3], so the amount follows size closely. A leopard gecko returns a gram or two, a bearded dragon about a tablespoon, a ball python a few ounces and a large tortoise several pounds. Shelled species return a little more because the shell is bone. The ashes weight estimator gives a figure for your pet.
Is reptile cremation available in Sharjah?
In most larger cities, yes, though providers experienced with reptiles may be fewer than those used to cats and dogs. Start with a vet who sees exotic pets; they'll know which crematory handles snakes, lizards and tortoises.
