Ormond Beach, Florida
Where Ormond Beach keepers turn for help
Sea breezes keep Ormond Beach a touch milder than inland Volusia, with July highs near 90F and January nights around 49F. From spring to fall, your pet's body needs cold quickly: pick a room with the blinds drawn and the thermostat low, rest them on a flannel sheet, and nestle bagged ice, wrapped in a hand towel, beside them. During a hurricane watch, the beachside bridges may close to traffic.
Ormond Beach sits just north of Daytona Beach in Volusia County, divided by the Halifax River into a beachside strip of condos and cottages and a larger mainland of neighborhoods reaching west past I-95 toward Hunter's Ridge. When you arrange pickup, say whether you are beachside or on the mainland, because the Granada Boulevard bridge can back up, particularly during Speedweeks or Bike Week crowds in Daytona.
If you keep reptiles near Ormond Beach under a wildlife or exotic animal permit, check whether your permit asks you to record a death or show how the body was dealt with. Requirements vary by place and species, so we don't list them here. A written cremation certificate from the provider is easy to ask for and covers most record-keeping needs.
Ormond Beach is home to about 44,692 people, the 73rd-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Ormond Beach are based about 55 miles away in Orlando, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
Families in Ormond Beach often end up using a provider from Daytona Beach (7 miles), Port Orange (14 miles) and Palm Coast (19 miles, a larger centre). That is normal: crematories serve a radius, not a single town, and the drive is priced into collection.

Embrace notes cremated remains typically weigh about 3-5% of the pet's original body weight.

How Florida thinks about cremation
With about 72.5%[1] of people in Florida cremated, pet crematories here tend to be busy and competitive. For a reptile that usually means a choice of providers and fair minimum fees. It doesn't mean every one of them is used to a tortoise shell or a 12-foot python, so ask about your species before you agree to anything.
That Florida rate is a human one, published by NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). We quote it for Ormond Beach only as a pointer to how families here already think about cremation.
Ormond Beach weather and your reptile
Heat waves bring a risk that's easy to forget: power cuts. When the air conditioning stops during a May, June, July, August and September outage, a reptile room can climb far past safe temperatures within hours, especially glass tanks near a sunny window. If you lose a reptile this way, tell your vet it was heat, so they can advise on any others in the same room.
In Ormond Beach's hottest weeks, don't leave your reptile's body in a car, garage or outdoor shed, even briefly, and don't carry it to the vet in a thin bag. Use a lidded tub with a wrapped ice pack beside it, not on top. If the vet is some distance away, make the trip early in the morning or in the evening during July.

Paying for a reptile's cremation in Ormond Beach
Small pets pay the most per pound. By our estimate, private cremation works out at roughly $9 a pound for a 15 lb pet and about $4 a pound at 60 lb[5]. A 1 lb bearded dragon in Ormond Beach usually pays the same minimum as that 15 lb pet, so the number worth comparing is each provider's lowest private price.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Florida: Florida costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Rules reptile keepers should know in Florida
Before a home burial anywhere in Florida, look past the regional rules to the ones closer to home. Leases, homeowners' associations and some city ordinances forbid burying animals on the property, even a small lizard. Cremation needs no such permission, and the ashes can go with you wherever you settle next.

The Florida page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. Ormond Beach's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
Who to call and what to do, in order
- Take a breath. With the body chilled and sealed, the rest can wait until tomorrow.
- Confirm with a vet if there's any chance of brumation, cold shock or deep torpor.
- Wash everything the body touched with hot, soapy water, then disinfect, and wash your hands well.
- Compare two quotes for a private cremation when time allows; the minimum charge for a small pet differs widely.
- Ask three questions: are reptiles routine for them, what keeps a tiny body apart in the chamber, and roughly what ash quantity comes back.
- Plan where the ashes will go, whether that's a locket small enough for a gecko or a proper urn for a tortoise. Use the ashes weight estimator to get the size right.
Remembering your reptile in Ormond Beach
Ormond Beach calls itself the birthplace of speed, after the early automobile races on its firm sand, and that wide beach is still where many families spent sunrises with their animals. Others loved the river trails at Tomoka State Park, where the Tomoka meets the Halifax. State parks need permission for scattering, so ask the rangers. An urn kept at home lets you return to those places without deciding right away.

Questions people ask
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Ormond Beach?
There is no frozen-ground season here; average lows stay above freezing all year. The other pressure point is July, when highs around 90°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
How do Florida attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Florida human cremation rate at about 72.5%[1]. We show it on the Ormond Beach page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Ormond Beach?
The closest communities we cover are Daytona Beach (about 7 miles), Port Orange (about 14 miles) and Palm Coast (about 19 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Ormond Beach too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 55 miles from Ormond Beach) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
How long until I get my reptile's ashes back?
Many families get private cremation ashes back within one to two weeks, and 5-10 days[7] is commonly quoted in the US. From a smaller town, where the crematory may collect only on certain days, it can take longer. Ask for an expected return date when you book, and whether the ashes come by post or for collection.
Will a crematory near Ormond Beach accept a snake?
Most pet crematories will cremate a snake, but experience varies. Give the species, weight and length when you call. A long python may need to be coiled into a container that fits the chamber door, and a few smaller operations have a size limit. Ask how often they handle snakes and whether the cremation is private.
